Manj kot leto dni po ustanovitvi firme so že končali prototip Capara T1 (sodelovala sta tudi dva McLarenova inženirja) in ga sedaj veselo testirajo, prve primerke pa bodo oddali v prvi pol. 2007. Naredili bodo 2 na mesec, za 2007 že imajo polovico prodanih, tako da je treba kar pohiteti.

Avto ima razmerje cca 1 KM/kg, sposoben bo pospešiti do 100 v <2,5 s, do 160 v <5 s, sposoben bo tudi zavijanja in zaviranja s silo 3+ G (!!) (z downforce-om; mislim, da imajo Ferrari etc zavijanje tam okoli 1,1 G - brez df? - oz Koenigsegg ima 1,3 G) . Več v angleščini in tu:

Caparo Vehicle Technologies has achieved the monumental task of completing the first of two prototypes of its T1 supercar less than a year after the company was formed. We'll remind you that the T1 is a street-legal, ultralight F1-inspired racer designed by ex-McLaren engineers Ben Scott-Geddes and Graham Halstead. Powered by a 2.4-liter supercharged V8 rated at 500 horsepower, the T1 can reach 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds thanks to its low 1,100 lb. curb weight. The XP1 prototype car started under its own power, which is always a good sign, and will now begin comprehensive testing and tweaking before a second prototype, the XP2, begins additional testing in December. Customers will likely begin receiving their cars in early 2007, and Caparo claims it has half of its available production for next year already sold. The T1 will be not be a mass produced exotic, however, with Caparo capable of building only two units per month at its Basingstoke facility in the U.K.

The T1 is really a rolling showcase for lightweight vehicle technology that Caparo hopes will attract the business of aerospace and automotive companies seeking weight reductions through the use of composite materials, a Caparo specialty. Thus, Caparo's Chief Executive Richard Butler calls the T1, "but one-tenth of the business plan". Caparo has long been a supplier of aluminum and steel, but with the T1 it has demonstrated its capacity as an automotive component supplier that can design, develop and produce lightweight components for both the aero and auto industries.

Designed to be an F1 car for the street, the wee beastie (456kg!) that'll supposedly pull 3gs of lateral acceleration sounds not so much like a car, but rather a Sidewinder missile on rails. The project has now been bought out by automotive consultancy Caparo, with founding engineers Ben Scott-Geddes and Graham Halstead staying on board. Caparo hopes to have the first cars on the road by December. We're slightly scared.

Final specs for Caparo’s new T1 supercar

Developers of the high performance two-seater Caparo T1 are putting the final touches on a near production ready prototype, with the car set to make its debut at this month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in full production trim. The first customer cars are already being readied for the start of production, with orders filling fast at dealers in the UK, US, South Africa and Dubai. The first lucky buyer will receive their F1 car built for the road sometime in July, which comes with a price tag of £190,000 including taxes.

The Caparo T1 is the first series production car ever to break through the 1,000bhp-per-tonne barrier, which features an amazing 1,045bhp-per-tonne power-to-weight ratio. This has been achieved by installing a hand-built 3.5L Caparo V8 engine, which produces 575bhp (425kW) at 10,500rpm and 420Nm (310lbft) at 9,000rpm, into an extremely lightweight body and chassis constructed of advanced composite materials and weighing just 550kg.

The end result is a 0-60mph time of less than 2.5 seconds and the ability to reach 100mph within five seconds. Braking performance is no less impressive with 100mph to standstill being delivered in 3.5 seconds. This means the Caparo T1 is lighter and faster even than a race-winning Le Mans sports car.

Par zadev je treba omenit:

- Cestna uporaba je vprašljiva, ker ne gre čez ležeče policaje.
- Je neverjetno pokvarljiv - Clarksonu iz Top Gear-a se je dvakrat pokvaril v enem testu, Jason Plato iz Fifth Gear-a se je moral bojevati z požarom in je bil hudo opečen, pa tudi ostali nimajo kaj več sreče.
-Cena cca. 300.000 € :shock:
