Though Volvo’s current S80 has only been on the market since 2007, the automaker decided it was time for a makeover - inside, outside and under hood. Though Volvo’s new diesel engine isn’t expected to arrive in North America any time soon, buyers of the 2010 S80 will be able to take advantage of interior and exterior upgrades.
A new grille with a larger badge and additional chrome details round out the relatively minor exterior changes. Expect to see a new lineup of wheels on the S80 for North American-specification models, as well.
Inside, Volvo has modified its seats and door panels for a higher-quality appearance. New gauges, steering wheel, gear lever and starter button also make an appearance.
Europe will get Volvo’s new D5 twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel motor that we previewed a few months ago.
Volvo also will debut the S80 DRIVe in Geneva, an S80 with a small 1.6-liter diesel mated to a manual transmission. The S80 DRIVe cuts CO2 emissions to 129g/km and delivers 57.6 mpg in the European combined cycle.
