BMW will launch a big MPV in late 2009, to take on the Mercedes R-class. The car’s internal development name – ‘Super-Touring’ – summarises the concept: a spacious five-seater that fits into the BMW range above the 5-series Touring but beneath the X5 SUV.

It's not the only BMW MPV on the way. CAR Online has revealed that a 3-series-based, Renault Scenic rival is due in 2010.

2010 BMW V5: 5-Series Crossover-Hatch Scooped

While BMW officials completely rule out the possibility of creating a pure MPV, they aren’t so negative when talk comes to crossovers. It’s not that they dislike MPV’s but they find crossover’s more BMW material -hence the X6, a cross between an X5 and a coupe. Now Bavarians are looking to add another crossover in their line-up, one that combines DNA from a traditional station wagon with that of an MPV, an SUV and a hatch, or at least that’s what we’ve been told. The end result will be the V5, a practical, yet dynamic looking 5door model with a higher ground clearance than your avg. sedan. Frankenstein eat your heart out…

WCF je napisal/-a:Mercedes has carved out a couple of exclusive niches for itself and BMW wants in. Earlier we showed a CS Concept based 8 Series, which targets the four-door coupe of the CLS-Class. Simultaneously, BMW is also pursuing Mercedes territory with the all new V-Series (aka, RFK or PAS) which will be aimed at Mercedes' R-Class market and our spies have caught a prototype testing in Lapland.

The styling of the all new V-Series features a fastback design allowing more headroom than the X6 whilst simultaneously being smaller than the R-Class. The V-Series will be based on the 5 series platform and is likely to inherit its entire engine range.

Our spy photographer managed to get a couple of shots of the interior – albeit heavily disguised, but it still reveals details such as the gear lever and iDrive.

As with all new BMW models, we are likely to see the V-Series in concept form possibly sometime during 2008 prior to the launch of a full production model in 2010
