
Hyundai Motor Co. engineers have been testing prototypes of the next-generation Elantra sedan which is due to arrive in fall 2005 as a 2006 model. The '06 Elantra is part of a wave of new and improved products from the Korean automaker, which include redesigns of the Sonata sedan and Santa Fe SUV, as well as the launch of the Tucson crossover utility.
The '06 Elantra gets new sheet metal and a totally revised interior. It reportedly will shift to an updated platform, which it will share with the Kia Spectra sedan. Powertrains and suspensions will be upgraded as well.
Elantra will continue to be positioned above the Accent in size and price as Hyundai's entry against popular Japanese compacts.
