Autoblog je napisal/-a:BREAKING: Saab board reportedly votes to liquidate company, but GM still weighing bids
by Chris Paukert (RSS feed) on Jan 8th 2010 at 11:28AM Breaking
According to a press release quoted in Dow Jones Newswires, Stefan Lofven, head of Swedish trade union IF Metall, the board of Saab has voted today to liquidate the company. Simultaneously, General Motors has announced that it has hired AlixPartners to supervise the "orderly wind-down" of the marque.
Interestingly, none of this means that Saab is dead, although certainly neither of these things can be seen as reason for optimism. According to its own statement about AlixPartners (available after the jump), GM continues to evaluate bids for Saab, presumably those from Spyker Cars and Genii Capital/Bernie Ecclestone – if not others as well. To this, Lofven is quoted as remarking that "It is irresponsible of GM in this situation to act in two directions, both towards a sale and towards a wind-down." Irresponsible or no, that appears to be exactly what GM is doing. More as it happens...

PRESS RELEASE
GM STATEMENT REGARDING SAAB
GM today confirmed it has selected AlixPartners to supervise the orderly wind down of Saab, and has requested approval of the selection by the appropriate authority in Sweden. The use of a wind down supervisor is a commonly-used process in Sweden and works in the interest of the shareholder.
The wind down process is expected to take several months, and will ensure that employees, dealers and suppliers are adequately protected. As stated previously, Saab customers can be assured that warranties will continue to be honored and that service and spare parts will continue to be available.
GM also confirmed that it has received several proposals for Saab and is continuing to evaluate these proposals. This evaluation is not affected by the appointment of AlixPartners.

HUMMER Sale to Tengzhong Cannot be Completed
Wind down of HUMMER business to begin
2010-02-24
DETROIT – General Motors today announced that Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co., Ltd. (Tengzhong) was unable to complete the acquisition of HUMMER. As a result, GM will begin the orderly wind-down of the HUMMER operations.
"One year ago, General Motors announced that we were going to divest HUMMER, as part of focusing our efforts on Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac going forward. We have since considered a number of possibilities for HUMMER along the way, and we are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed," said John Smith GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances. "GM will now work closely with HUMMER employees, dealers and suppliers to wind down the business in an orderly and responsible manner."
GM will continue to honor HUMMER warranties, while providing service support and spare parts to current HUMMER owners around the world.

Anthony Lo: He became the boss of exterior design at Renault
March 8, 2010 at 17:42
Since retirement, well deserved, Patrick Le Quement, the switch at Citroën Thierry Métroz, it started to feel the empty side of the office style of Renault (some say even before the smell was already empty! !) but after the arrival of L. van der Ackers at the head of the whole design of the brand in diamond, it is the turn of the former head of advanced design for GM Europe, but also and above all Saab come to express his talent at Renault.
The designer of 45 years, trained at the Royal College of Art of London to start his career at Lotus in 1987 before going to Mercedes and to create among other the F200 concept car which will give rise to the S-Class (W220) then in October 2000 he moved from Saab before taking the head of the whole design of General Motors Europe (Opel owes the GTC Concept, 2006).
At Saab, we owe the 9-x, the 9-3X, the 9-3 Sporthatch, the Aero X, the new 9-4X, the 9-X BioHybrid and especially the new 9-5. That at least is new blood that would normally make nice cars at Renault especially if one refers to the beautiful concept cars he has designed for Saab. Good luck to this talented but little-known designer.

Spyker Saab 9 + Tribute: A Dutch-Swedish supercar of all beauty!
March 8, 2010 at 15:52
Attention First I put the precautions that will, if present case, there is nothing official though these drawings are the result of the work of Edward Gray, designer and consultant approved in Saab in Trollhättan. The initial idea is to take the structure (platform, mechanical installation) of a kind Spyker C8 Laviolette or spoiler and a dress design saabiste as for the interior. And here's the result that I find really successful.
Spyker is known at present negotiating with GM to have the V8 LS3 for its future SUV, so you can easily imagine the V8 LS9 in the Corvette ZR1 under the hood of the Saab 9 + Spyker.
A wonderful project that is easy to imagine a Saab stand if only for the beauty of movement and self.
A sweet dream for saabistes, lovers of supercars, but who knows Victor Muller can be made out of those there!

FORD REACHES AGREEMENT TO SELL VOLVO CARS AND RELATED ASSETS TO GEELY; SALE EXPECTED TO CLOSE IN THIRD QUARTER
DEARBORN, Mich., 28, 2010 – Ford Motor Company [NYSE: F] today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Volvo Car Corporation and related assets to Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Company Limited.
The sale is expected to close in the third quarter of 2010, and is subject to customary closing conditions, including receipt of applicable regulatory approvals.
The purchase price for Volvo Cars and related assets (primarily intellectual property) is $1.8 billion (U.S.), which will be paid in the form of a note in the amount of $200 million (U.S.), and the remainder in cash. The cash portion of the purchase price will be adjusted at close for customary purchase price adjustments relating to pension deficits, debt, cash and working capital, the net effect of which could be a significant decrease in the cash proceeds to Ford.
"Volvo is a great brand with an excellent product lineup. This agreement provides a solid foundation for Volvo to continue to build its business under Geely's ownership," said Alan Mulally, Ford's president and CEO. "At the same time, the sale of Volvo will allow us to further sharpen our focus on building the Ford brand around the world and continue to deliver on our One Ford plan serving our customers with the very best cars and trucks in the world."
Ford will continue to cooperate with Volvo Cars in several areas after the sale has been completed in order to ensure a smooth transition, but will not retain any ownership in the Volvo Cars business.
Following completion of the sale, Ford will continue to supply Volvo Cars with, for differing periods, powertrains, stampings and other vehicle components.
As part of the sale, Ford also has committed to provide engineering support, information technology, access to tooling for common components, and other selected services for a transition period to ensure a smooth separation process.
Ford and Geely have established agreements to govern the use of intellectual property; these agreements will allow both Volvo and Ford to deliver their business plans and provide appropriate safeguards against misuse. These agreements also will allow Volvo Cars to grant sublicenses to certain portions of Ford's intellectual property used by Volvo Cars to third parties, including Geely.
"The Volvo team has done an exceptional job of restructuring its business and remaining focused on delivering its plan during the sale process," said Lewis Booth, Ford's chief financial officer. "With Ford's continued investment in Volvo, it has launched its best-ever product range and remained true to its core values – safety, quality, environmental responsibility and modern Scandinavian design.
"We look forward to continuing to work with Volvo Cars, and wish the management team, employees and new owners every success for the future."
"Zhejiang Geely would like to pay tribute to Ford's stewardship of the Volvo brand, and we look forward to continued cooperation as Volvo embarks on the next stage of its evolution with Geely," said Li Shufu, chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Company Limited.
Stephen Odell, CEO of Volvo Cars, added, "The Volvo management team fully endorses Ford's sale of Volvo Cars to Geely. We believe this is the right outcome for the business, and will provide Volvo Cars with the necessary resources, including the capital investment, to strengthen the business and to continue to move it forward in the future.
"Geely has been very supportive of Volvo Cars' business plans and management team. We look forward to building a strong relationship between Volvo Cars and Geely, and to maintaining a strong relationship with Ford in those areas where we will continue to work together to ensure a smooth transition."
