The RENESIS engine

Mazda has been continuously developing rotary engine technology since 1961, and the result of this is the RENESIS engine, representing a breakthrough in engine technology that will meet future EU emission standards. The innovative nature of RENESIS is suggested by its name, derived from the word ‘Genesis’.

Much lighter and smaller than previous rotary engines, the RENESIS engine is efficient in terms of output. An unmistakable 208 kw (250 hp) of power is produced by two chambers of 654 cc each, working up to 8,500 revs per minute. It's small size allows it to sit well back in the RX-8, thereby improving safety and interior room, aerodynamic capability, and creating a perfect balance through 50 : 50 weight distribubtion.
